The Hidden Cost of Carrying Everything

July 06, 20264 min read

What if the exhaustion you're feeling isn't because you're weak but because you've been carrying too much for too long? Welcome to Whole Soul Living, a place where we'll have honest conversations about grief, emotional resilience, faith, leadership, and the hidden weight so many women carry in silence. My hope is that every article reminds you that you were never meant to carry everything alone.

If someone had asked me years ago how I was doing, I probably would have given the same answer many of us give. "I'm fine." And in many ways, I believed it.

I kept showing up. I handled my responsibilities. I took care of the people who depended on me. I did what needed to be done, even when life brought unexpected losses and difficult seasons.

From the outside, I looked strong. What most people couldn't see was the weight I was carrying.

Maybe you've been there too.

Maybe you're the person everyone calls when they need help. You're dependable. Responsible. You keep your commitments. You rarely let people down.

But somewhere along the way, you began carrying more than your share.

  • You carried the expectations of others.

  • You carried disappointment.

  • You carried heartbreak.

  • You carried responsibilities that were never meant to be yours.

  • You carried the pressure to keep smiling, keep serving, and keep moving forward—even when your own heart was tired.

After a while, carrying everything begins to feel normal. We stop asking ourselves whether the weight is healthy because we've become so used to living with it. That's one of the reasons I wanted to create Whole Soul Living.

This isn't just a place to read articles. It's a place to pause, reflect, and have honest conversations about the things many of us experience but rarely talk about. One of those conversations is about grief.

When most people hear the word grief, they immediately think about the death of someone they love. That kind of grief is real, and it deserves to be honored. But I've learned that grief doesn't begin and end there. Grief can be the loss of a relationship. The end of a marriage. A career that didn't work out. A dream that never came to pass. A friendship that quietly faded away. A season of life you thought would look different. Even becoming someone new often requires grieving the version of yourself you had to leave behind.

Loss changes us. And whether we realize it or not, every loss asks something of us emotionally. When those emotions go unacknowledged, they don't simply disappear. Instead, they often show up in other ways. We become emotionally exhausted. We lose our joy. We find ourselves constantly overwhelmed. We become impatient with the people we love. We struggle to rest because our minds never stop racing. Sometimes we don't even recognize ourselves anymore.

Here's what I want you to know: None of those things automatically mean you're failing. They may simply be signs that you've been carrying too much for too long.

Our world celebrates people who can do it all. We're applauded for staying busy. We're admired for being strong. We're praised for always showing up. But very few people stop to ask what it's costing us. I've discovered that strength isn't measured by how much we can carry. Real strength is knowing when to acknowledge the weight, when to ask for support, and when to begin releasing what was never ours to carry in the first place. That isn't weakness. It's wisdom. It's the beginning of healing.

My hope is that Whole Soul Living becomes a place where you find language for experiences you've struggled to explain. A place where you'll discover practical insights, fresh perspectives, and gentle encouragement for your own journey.

Some articles will challenge the way you think.

Some will encourage your faith.

Some may even put words to feelings you've carried silently for years.

But every article has the same purpose: to remind you that healing is possible, resilience can be rebuilt, and wholeness is still within reach.

If this is your first time here, I'm so glad you found your way to this space. Thank you for trusting me with a few moments of your day.

As we continue this journey together, we'll talk about grief beyond death, emotional resilience, leadership, boundaries, faith, and what it truly means to live from a place of wholeness.

Until then, I want to leave you with one simple thought: Just because you've been carrying something for a long time doesn't mean you were ever meant to carry it alone. Sometimes the first step toward healing isn't finding all the answers. Sometimes it's simply recognizing the weight you've been carrying and giving yourself permission to begin setting it down.

Welcome to Whole Soul Living.
